It’s been over a month since I’ve posted. I’m not exactly sure why. Maybe because it’s lazy summer time or maybe because I started my new job and I’m still getting in routine. Whatever the reason, it is certainly not for lack of things to cheer about.
Erica has had two Enhertu treatments since my last post. I am happy to report that there has been very little side effects. Her appetite is consistent, hair seems to continue to grow, no nausea or digestive issues. She has experienced 48 to 72 hours of added fatigue following the treatment, but otherwise no surprises. We won’t know if this one treatment is fully effective on the tumors until her next scans in October, but we see no symptoms of concern. In many ways, life has become relatively consistent and predictable. Yay!
Erica’s greatest complaint is boredom. For this, I am thrilled. This tells me that she is feeling well. Her constraint is not illness, but circumstances. She can not go out on her own so she relies on others for opportunity. We take trike rides when I get home from work and try new things like kayaking on the weekend. Friends stop by and fill time with laughter. She’s even been consistently working with a strength trainer every Saturday morning. Erica is gaining strength and courage, braving small independent moves around the house with her walker — such as getting to the kitchen and front porch on her own.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “those that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint.” We’ve waited on the Lord and I’m confident that Erica already has her wings. She has never been a runner. So, today we thank God for the walk and celebrate many other joys.
